  • Mussia Langotsky arrives at the northern Dead Sea and begins experiments and observations
  • May – a public tender is issued
  • October – 5 bids were submitted 3 of which were selected. Novomeisky has a technical advantage, his competitors a financial advantage.
  • The Australian government demands recognition of the franchise given in 1911 by the Turks, to Turkish citizens who sold it to a British group that included Australia.

  • Another round of bid by various entities, with no result
  • April 9 – the High Commissioner (Lord Plummer) agrees in principle to award the franchise to Novomeisky and Tolok provided that they present satisfactory financial guarantees.

    Ferocious arguments in Britain’s House of Lords in view of fierce opposition to awarding the franchise to a Jew.

    The Beit Harava Kibbutz is founded on the franchised lands of the Palestine Potash Ltd (P.P.L) company – activities expand in the north and the south; production quantities in the southern plant exceed those of the northern plant; Novomeisky receives the franchise to search for oil in the region.

    A first group sails south to establish the plant in Sdom, a workers camp is established and evaporation pools are constructed in the south Dead Sea.

    Research missions begin to the Arava and the Akaba bay

    The meteorological station is established in the Akaba bay. Worldwide WWII raged bringing about an increase in production and deployment of exports throughout the British Empire and around the globe. These were years of growth and prosperity for the Potash Company.

    The UN decision on the partition of Israel according to which the north Dead Sea will become an Arab country.

    The War of Independence breaks out. Snipers fire on convoys heading to Jerusalem.

  • An airport is established in the north Dead Sea, intermittent stopping of the flow of water from E-Zapi to Sdom./li>
  • Levy Shpigelman (Hagana commander in Sdom) is wounded in a convoy to Jerusalem and dies of his wounds.
  • •Fuel shortages disrupt the plants activities.
  • Firing on the Sdom plant, firing on Camp C in Sdom, skirmishes in the Ein Aros region.
  • Land contact with Jerusalem ceases, and a siege commences on north and south Dead Sea.
  • First casualty while tending to a water canal (Ein Bideh)
  • Extending the runway at the airport near the Sdom plant (2 engines, 7 passengers)./li>
  • The water pipe from E-Zapi is disconnected and water begins to be transported in boats from the north Dead Sea.
  • • Five workers are taken prisoner by the Jordanians from the pools in Sdom.

  • Moshe Novomeisky negotiates with the Jordanians on neutralizing the plants, under authority and approval of David Ben Gurion.

    On the night between May 19 – 20 evacuation of the north Dead Sea and Beit Harava to Sdom.

  • The north dead Sea plant is looted and destroyed
  • Work in the potassium plant in Sdom is stopped
  • A handful of “torch bearers” remain to maintain and reinforce the Sdom plant; a small group led by Moshe Langotzky remained in Sdom to maintain the plant.
